| Afternoon Delights was a Boston-based vocal studio group (a collection of musicians/singers assembled solely for a recording project) that scored a Top 30 R&B single with "General Hospi-Tale" on MCA Records. It was a parody of the long-running ABC-TV soap opera General Hospital. The group's lineup was Rebecca Hall, Janet Powell, Robalee Barnes, and Suzanne Boucher. "General Hospi-Tale" went to number 23 R&B, number 33 pop on Billboard charts in summer 1981. It was included on the Afternoon Delights LP, with it and the single later becoming collectibles.

| Live recording from The Blackhawk, San Francisco, 1961.To quote John Hammond`s liner notes, "The Ahmad Jamal Trio far transcends the jazz world, and the fact it has been consistently popular has caused the self-styled jazz criticsto polish off epithets as `commercial` and `cocktail music`. Pay them no mind, and listen to some of the most sensitive, delicate and subtle music in jazz history".

| Audio Fidelity Stereodisc. A virtuoso on the trumpet, Al Hirt was often "overqualified" for the Dixieland and pop music that he performed. He studied classical trumpet at the Cincinnati Conservatory (1940-1943) and was influenced by the playing of Harry James. He freelanced in swing bands (including both Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, and Ray McKinley) before returning to New Orleans in the late '40s and becoming involved in the Dixieland movement. He teamed up with clarinetist Pete Fountain on an occasional basis from 1955 on, and became famous by the end of the decade. An outstanding technician with a wide range, along with a propensity for playing far too many notes, Hirt had some instrumental pop hits in the 1960s. He also recorded swing and country music, but mostly stuck to Dixieland in his live performances. He remained a household name throughout his career, although one often feels that he could have done so much more with his talent. Hirt's early Audiofidelity recordings (1958-1960) and collaborations with Fountain are the most rewarding of his long career; he died at his home in New Orleans on April 27, 1999. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide

| Andreas Vollenweider was one of the few musicians to gain superstar status as a "new age artist" back when the term was first used as a marketing category in the mid-'80s. The Swiss harpist, however, quickly transcended the need for alternative record sales when his albums simultaneously broached Billboard's pop, jazz, and classical charts in 1986. Born in Zurich in 1953, Vollenweider was ensconced in the city's fine art scene, courtesy of his father, one of Europe's leading organists. After becoming proficient on guitar, flute, and other instruments, the young Vollenweider developed a passion for the harp, which he modified to suit his needs. Not only did he construct a damper to expedite more rhythmic playing, he broadened the harp's tonal range by electrifying it. His buoyant funk beats, exotic pan-cultural influences, and colorful harp improvisations began to sweep Europe in the early '80s as Vollenweider signed with CBS Records to release Behind the Gardens...Behind the Wall. Three albums later, he won his first Grammy for 1987's Down to the Moon. Over the years, Vollenweider has managed to maintain his artistic integrity and vision despite increasing commercial success. The harpist's 1991 album Book of Roses is a testament to his ability to expand his scope as a composer while keeping his trademark sound intact; after a lenghty hiatus, he issued Kryptos in 1998, followed two years later by Cosmopoly. Still mostly covered with shrink wrap but opeened.

Still mostly covered with shrink wrap but opened.

| Aurora "Rory" Block has staked her claim to be one of America's top acoustic blueswomen, an interpreter of the great Delta blues singers, a slide guitarist par excellence, and also a talented songwriter on her own account. She developed a reputation as a strong, vibrant live performer, and one of the best players of old country blues in America. The plaudits didn't really begin until 1992, when she won a NAIRD Award for "Ain't I a Woman", a feat repeated in 1994 and 1997. In '96 she began winning W.C. Handy Awards, first for Best Traditional Album ("When a Woman Gets the Blues"), and in '97 and '98 for Best Traditional Blues Female Artist. In 1997 she was elected to the CAMA Hall of Fame, and in 1999 she received yet another Handy Award, for Best Acoustic Blues Album (Confessions of a Blues Singer). She stills tours, although not as heavily as in earlier times, and she's often accompanied by her grown son Jordan Block who also plays on her albums. Stevie Wonder also performs with her on this album. Small corner cut.
