| Afternoon Delights was a Boston-based vocal studio group (a collection of musicians/singers assembled solely for a recording project) that scored a Top 30 R&B single with "General Hospi-Tale" on MCA Records. It was a parody of the long-running ABC-TV soap opera General Hospital. The group's lineup was Rebecca Hall, Janet Powell, Robalee Barnes, and Suzanne Boucher. "General Hospi-Tale" went to number 23 R&B, number 33 pop on Billboard charts in summer 1981. It was included on the Afternoon Delights LP, with it and the single later becoming collectibles.

| A reminder of how fleeting hip-hop glory can be, female L.A. rappers M.C.J.B. , Baby-D and Sassy C formed Just Jammin' Fresh and Def (J.J. Fad) in 1988. They were part of Hurby "Love Bug" Azor's empire alongside Salt 'N Pepa. The female equivalent of Kriss Koss, the trio featured a youthful, heavily pop-oriented brand of rap that was non-threatening. "Supersonic", produced by The Arabian Prince, was a Top 30 pop and R&B hit, and the album went gold, peaking at 49. Soon after it dropped off the charts, they were a memory. 12" single.

| Peter Brown first came to fame with the first million-selling twelve dance single, 'Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me.' Brown was a pioneer in home recording, having recorded his seminal hit in his bedroom. His '70's era home recording studio is pictured on the cover of Westside / DNA's 'Get Funky With Me: The Best of the TK Years'. He also co-wrote Madonna's 1985 pop hit, 'Material Girl,' with Peter Rans. Born 11th July,1953 in Blue Island, Illinois, Brown, who started playing drums in his teens, attended the Art Institute Of Chicago and experimented with his four-track reel to reel tape recorder in his bedroom studio. He became proficient at performing all the music himself. The singer / keyboardist / producer was signed to Hialeah, FL-based Drive Records, a subsidiary of Henry Stone's TK Records. Brown's 1984 Columbia LP, Snap included the sly rock / dance classic 'Zie Zie Won't Dance,' the dub reggae-sounding 'Hot Flash,' the driving, swirling horn-laced 'Electric Shoes,' the dream-like 'Double or Nothing,' and the pumping single, 'They Only Come Out At Night.'

| Sweet Pea Atkinson was one of the vocalists for the Detroit R&B ensemble Was (Not Was). The group issued four LPs from 1981-1990, although there was nearly a five-year gap between their second release and their third in 1988. Atkinson later departed for a solo career. Still sealed. Corner notch.

| Underground rap. White label. Appears to be a test pressing of songs from the "What's On My Mind" album, although there is no information on the label other than the name of the group. Plain white die-cut cover. Bio: Though the Dayton Family never extended their reach to either the West or East Coast, the little-known rap group developed a substantial cult following in the Midwest during the mid-'90s with their potent hardcore rap. Their unlikely home base of Flint, MI, immediately gave them an idiosyncratic identity; a relatively uneventful, far-from-glitzy industrial city an hour outside of Detroit, Flint hosts some of the most depressed ghettos in America. It was from these hopeless streets that the Dayton Family arose, naming themselves after one of the city's most infamous hustling streets, Dayton Avenue. Like Detroit's Esham and Memphis' Three 6 Mafia, the Dayton Family sincerely emulated their Midwestern mentality: a dark, grim mentality focused on modest survival rather than riches or fame. Unfortunately, the group's members all endured problems with the law throughout the late '90s; their numerous indictments prevented them from ever capitalizing on their modest success. As a result, years passed with only the occasional solo album to retain any interest in the cult group.

| Although sometimes grouped with Spyro Gyra, the Yellowjackets are actually one of the most creative regular groups in the "rhythm & jazz" genre. Founded in 1981 as an R&B-oriented band that starred guitarist Robben Ford, the group took a giant step forward when, after Ford's departure, altoist Marc Russo took his place. With original members Russell Ferrante on keyboards and electric bassist Jimmy Haslip, in addition to drummer William Kennedy, the band found its own R&B-ish sound, sometimes playing original compositions that sounded like Joe Zawinul at his most melodic. Starting out on Warner Brothers in the early '80s, the Yellowjackets moved to MCA/GRP in 1986, where they released a string of well-received albums. In the '90s, Russo chose to go out on his own, and his replacement, Bob Mintzer (on tenor and bass clarinet), added more jazz credibility to the group's music. They moved back to Warner Brothers in 1995 for several albums before moving the Heads Up label for the live two-CD set Mint Jam in 2002. 2003 saw the release of their first studio album in five years, Time Squared.
