| Ted Heath was one of the most famous big band leaders in Great Britain of the 1950's. His bands played modernized swing music that was always danceable but occasionally had worthwhile solos played in the tradition. Heath started out playing tenor horn before he switched to trombone when he was 14. He spent a period playing as a street musician and then was discovered by Jack Hylton who hired him for his band. He joins with Edmundo Ros, Latin artist. Gatefold jacket. Big Band, swing & latin.

| Terence Trent D'Arby emerged in 1987 amid a storm of publicity. Claiming his debut record was the best since Sgt. Pepper's, his brash arrogance captured headlines throughout the U.K., eventually winding their way back to America -- which, ironically, is the exact opposite of how D'Arby conducted his career. During the early '80s, Terence Trent D'Arby was a soldier for the United States Army. While posted in Germany, he joined a funk band called Touch, which marked the beginning of his musical career. After leaving the Army, he moved to London, where he recorded the demo tape that led to his record contract with CBS. D'Arby's first single, "If You Let Me Stay," rocketed into the U.K. Top Ten upon its release. Its accompanying album, Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby, was also a massive success, hitting number one and spending over a year in the top half of the chart. Lyric sleeve.

| Underground rap. White label. Appears to be a test pressing of songs from the "What's On My Mind" album, although there is no information on the label other than the name of the group. Plain white die-cut cover. Bio: Though the Dayton Family never extended their reach to either the West or East Coast, the little-known rap group developed a substantial cult following in the Midwest during the mid-'90s with their potent hardcore rap. Their unlikely home base of Flint, MI, immediately gave them an idiosyncratic identity; a relatively uneventful, far-from-glitzy industrial city an hour outside of Detroit, Flint hosts some of the most depressed ghettos in America. It was from these hopeless streets that the Dayton Family arose, naming themselves after one of the city's most infamous hustling streets, Dayton Avenue. Like Detroit's Esham and Memphis' Three 6 Mafia, the Dayton Family sincerely emulated their Midwestern mentality: a dark, grim mentality focused on modest survival rather than riches or fame. Unfortunately, the group's members all endured problems with the law throughout the late '90s; their numerous indictments prevented them from ever capitalizing on their modest success. As a result, years passed with only the occasional solo album to retain any interest in the cult group.

| Techno/rap. Includes hit single "Egypt, Egypt." One of the most innovative producers of the old-school/electro era, Egyptian Lover's Greg Broussard recorded a parade of singles during the mid-'80s that proved influential for decades. Influenced himself by Kraftwerk/hip-hop soundclashes like Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock" and Man Parrish's "Hip-Hop Be Bop (Don't Stop)," as well as the extroverted black-lover soul of Prince and Zapp, Broussard began recording from his Los Angeles base in 1983. One year later, he emerged with the breakdancing anthem "Egypt, Egypt," released on the Freak Beat label. Similar to excellent tracks being produced all over America -- from Detroit (Cybotron) to New York (Mantronix) -- "Egypt, Egypt" and successors "What Is a DJ If He Can't Scratch," "And My Beat Goes Boom," and "Computer Love (Sweet Dreams)" spent much time in DJ crates during the '80s and '90s. Broussard also released several LPs during the mid-'80s, including 1984's On the Nile (practically a greatest-hits compilation), 1986's One Track Mind, and 1988's Filthy; the first two appeared on his own Egyptian Empire label. After several years away from music, he returned in 1994 with Back From the Tomb and the following year's Pyramix.

| With a sexy image, R-rated lyrics, and a very Prince-influenced blend of funk, rock, and pop, the Girls were extremely Minneapolis-sounding. All of them were under 20: Rhodes, the oldest of the three, was 19, while Brooks was 18, and Rankin was 17. The Girls signed with Columbia in 1983, and their debut album, Girl Talk, came out the following year. Album includes "Don't Waste My Time", "Someone Shoulda Told Me" and "S-E-S-E-X."

| A superior drummer equally at ease driving a big band or playing in small mainstream combos, Jake Hanna has been a strong asset to a countless number of sessions. He started out playing locally in Boston and worked with Toshiko Akiyoshi (1957), Maynard Ferguson (1958), as the house drummer at Storyville in Boston, with Marian McPartland (1959-1961), and most significantly with the Woody Herman Orchestra (1962-1964). As a studio musician, he was a regular member of the Merv Griffin television program's big band (1964-1975), moving with the show to Los Angeles (1970) where he remained. Hanna co-led a group with Carl Fontana that recorded for Concord in 1975, played with Supersax, and went on to appear on many mainstream and swing sessions, becoming a fixture at jazz parties and festivals. He has recorded many dates (mostly as a sideman) for Concord.

| Debut album by this group. Includes smash hits "You Got It All" and "Crush On You." Eighties teenyboppers, the Jets came from an extremely large family (17 children overall) and were comprised of eight of the family's brothers and sisters -- Leroy, Eddie, Eugene, Haini, Rudy, Kathi, Elizabeth, and Moana Wolfgramm (their parents originally emigrated to the U.S. from the South Pacific nation of Tonga, in 1965, but their offspring were raised in Minneapolis). From 1986 though 1989, the Jets enjoyed several dance-pop hits (tops being "Crush on You" and "You Got It All"), as well as several full-length albums, two of which (their 1986 self-titled debut and 1987's Magic) obtained gold and/or platinum certification. Picture sleeve included.

| Oscar Peterson was born on August 15, 1925, in Montreal. His parents were immigrants from the British West Indies and the Virgin Islands. His father, Daniel Peterson, met his mother, Olivia Johnson in Montreal where she had landed as a cook and housekeeper for an English family. They decided to remain in Canada, get married and start a family. Oscar was the fourth of five children in the Peterson house-hold, and their father wasted no time in starting each member of the Peterson clan on the piano. They were later farmed out to various teachers when they surpassed father Peterson's teaching capabilities. Oscar Peterson studied with the gifted Hungarian classical pianist, Paul deMarky, and a warm respectful musical and personal friendship developed between the two. During this period, Peterson won the Ken Soble amateur show and made various appearances on local radio shows as guest artist and appeared on national radio shows such as the Happy Gang, and the Listen Hour. Shortly after this period, he was signed by RCA Victor Records and made varied tours across Canada playing concerts. At the same point in time, Peterson did a stint in the Johnny Holmes Orchestra as a featured pianist.

| The Weather Girls, Martha Wash and Izora Rhodes, started out in the gospel group NOW (News of the World) before becoming backup singers with Sylvester in the '70s. They formed the duo Two Tons of Fun, later changing their name to the Weather Girls and recording in the early '80s. Wash later went on to do session singing and was the uncredited lead vocalist on "You're My One and Only (True Love)" by Seduction, "Everybody Everybody" by Black Box, and "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" by C&C Music Factory. Wash, who is overweight, was invariably replaced in the songs' videos by lip-syncing models, and was forced to resort to legal action to get a proper share of the royalties for her work.
Still covered with shrink wrap but opened. Double hole punch.

| Winter first came to public prominence in 1961 as the winner of a collegiate jazz festival held at Notre Dame University; one of that event's judges, John Hammond, subsequently signed the group to a Columbia recording contract. In 1962, the band was sent on a State Department tour of Latin America. That venture planted the first seeds of change in Winter's concept. In 1967, he abandoned traditional jazz format in favor of a lineup that featured non-Western instruments. The Paul Winter Consort, as the band was renamed, became one of the earliest exponents of world music, combining elements from various African, Asian, and South American cultures with jazz.

| The World Class Wreckin' Cru recorded some solid West Coast electro with Dr. Dre in the production chair, hitting the pop charts with a smooth love jam named "Turn Off the Lights" during 1988, the same year Dre's N.W.A. delivered the gangsta landmark Straight Outta Compton. The group was formed by Lonzo (Alonzo Williams), owner of the Compton club Eve After Dark, who recruited a pair of popular local DJs, Dr. Dre and DJ Yella, along with Dre's high-school friend Cli-N-Tel. Early singles like "Surgery" and "Juice" -- many of them recorded at a four-track studio that was part of the Eve After Dark complex -- stood alongside work by the Egyptian Lover and L.A. Dream Team as stellar examples of the fast-moving fusion of old school rap and electro. But even as the World Class Wreckin' Cru became one of southern California's most popular rap acts, Dr. Dre and DJ Yella were pursuing other production opportunities, one of which came from a new label (Ruthless) formed by Eazy-E. Along with Ice Cube, they wrote a single named "Boyz-n-the Hood" that was initially offered to the Ruthless act HBO, but later prompted the entire crew to form as N.W.A. After street-level singles like "Dopeman" and "8 Ball" became huge local hits, the World Class Wreckin' Cru became less of a priority for both Dr. Dre and Yella. Even after the loverman ballad "Turn Off the Lights" entered the R&B Top 40 in 1988, they continued with N.W.A. Phases in Life, a World Class Wreckin' Cru LP released in 1990, was basically a solo release by Lonzo.

Still sealed.
